Summer Workshops at the Crescent

Located in Crescent at the Arboretum

About This Event

The Crescent, located in the heart of the Arboretum just north of Baldwin Lake, is a reclaimed landscape where we experiment and explore new and ancient horticulture techniques for water conservation and food production. Join us to help transition the existing wildflower garden into the Crescent Farm. We will be working on contours and terracing, use of recycled materials, and possibly the beginning of our cob structures.

Instructors: Leigh Adams, Rishi Kumar & Jill Morganelli

This educational program is funded through donations; registration at the Crescent is required. Please bring gloves, drinking water, wear close-toed shoes and a hat.

Workshops are held Tuesdays 10am-4pm and Thursdays 10am-2pm.

July: Focus on seed harvesting and storage, composting of green waste in various forms, removal of weeds with biotic materials (experiments!).

August: Will feature working on contours and terracing, use of recycled materials, and possibly the beginning of our cob structures.

September: Mulching over our new contours, an exercise in sculpting cardboard, green waste and mulch to create weed barriers and fertile new soil.

The culmination of the summer workshops is the Hands-On Lasagna Mulching Workshop on September 20.
