March 14    Journey to Your Garden with Marilee Kuhlmann
Observing gardens and natural landscapes as you travel provides a special sense of place and wonder, as you witness people, plants, land forms  and animals adapting to their own situations. All inspire and help you visualize what a garden can provide. This “vacation through garden design” moves viewers from gorgeous travel photos to images of gardens the speaker has created. Marilee is a Los Angeles-based landscape designer (www.comfortzonesgardendesign.com ). Her sustainable ocean-friendly gardens are sensitive to both the environment and her clients’ unique needs and styles.

March 21    Field Trip to North Campus Garden, Natural History Museum of LA County, and Exposition Park Rose Garden, 10:00am-noon
Celebrate the start of spring with a private pre-formal-opening visit to the Natural History Museum’s new 3.5- acre North Campus Gardens at the Natural History Museum, designed by Mia Lehrer and Associates. Our tour guides, Director Carol Bornstein and Head Gardener Richard Hayden, will explain the history and educational mission of this amazing urban habitat garden and living laboratory. Next, we’ll head due east to the historic 7-acre Exposition Park Rose Garden to view thousands of freshly pruned bushes and early bloomers! Reservations Required.

March 28     The Engelmann Oak Project with Jim Henrich
The Arboretum’s Engelmann oak conservation management program is an ongoing project that aims to preserve and protect this rare natural grove of Quercus engelmannii, a beautiful native tree also known as Engelmann, Pasadena or Mesa Oak. This presentation provides insights into the program’s accomplishments since its inception in 2010. Much of the program takes place in the Engelmann Oak grove on Tallac Knoll; please wear footwear appropriate for walking. James E. Henrich is curator of living collections at the Arboretum.

April 4        Hollywood at the Arboretum with Vince Foley, plus Behind-the-Scenes-of-the-Scenes with Sandy Snider
Enjoy a chronological story of all manner of filming on Arboretum grounds, from pre-Arboretum (1936) beginnings to the present. Included are images of film, television, doses of commercials and even music videos—a compendium of images from the Arboretum’s archives. Vince is a longtime member of the Arboretum volunteer organization, Los Voluntarios, and member of the group’s Speakers’ Bureau. The program ends with “insider” stories and reminiscences from Sandy Snider, retired Arboretum historian and 35-year employee. She’ll share mishaps, near horrors and tales of friendly actors, too! Don’t miss this fun presentation!

April 11        Design Like a Pro: Demystifying the Art of Garden Design with Billy Goodnick
