January 6, Bet Sharry-Veilleux – Custom Made Wooden Bluetooth Speakers
Come watch as we make custom bluetooth speakers using reclaimed wood. This speaker kit from Rockler requires no soldering and is a great DIY project for woodworkers and crafters of any level. The instructor, Bet, has been woodworking for 40 years. She enjoys making custom boxes and turning pens on the lathe in her studio at home. One of her passions is to pass the knowledge along in classes and demos.
February 3, Jeanette Gonzales – From Bough to Box, with the Bandsaw
Jeanette will show how to create a wooden box from a solid block of found wood. Using just one woodworking machine and some nifty techniques, a half hour is all it takes to recycle a hunk of dead, dry wood into a beautiful and functional keepsake that will be treasured for generations. Jeanette has been active in the Los Angeles area woodworking community for nearly twenty years, and there aren’t too many local woodworkers with whom she is not acquainted. She actively supports “green” practices among the local woodworking community by working to reclaim wood from our local “urban forest” at local green waste dumps, and processing it into specialty wood products, such as green (un-dried) blocks that can then be turned into bowls, or other beautiful works of functional and decorative art.
