Cancellation & Refund Policy
The Los Angeles Arboretum Foundation reserves the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment or other circumstances which would make the class non-viable. If the Arboretum cancels a class, registrants will be offered a full refund. There are no refunds for cancellations within 7 days of the start of the class. For all other cancellations, your payment will be refunded minus a 10% processing fee.

Join Brie Wakeland, as she teaches you how create a variety of handcrafted items for your home. From Kombucha to hand salves, Brie will demonstrate techniques that enable you to add a flourish to your food’s flavors, improve nutrient content, reduce your household waste, and help soothe body and mind.

Brie Wakeland recently returned from the Sandor Katz Fermentation Residency Program in Liberty, TN. She is a Certified Instructor for Slow Food Preservers LA, UCCE Master Gardeners, and is also a certified yoga instructor, and traditional sign painter.  She works during the school year teaching yoga, food preservation, gardening and culinary arts lessons to children and adults throughout the LA area.


July 13 – Fermented Watermelon Pickles and Watermelon Preserves
Learn how to make a southern classic fermented watermelon rinds using the lacto-fermentation method. We’ll also be make delicious watermelon preserves.


August 10 – Preserving Tomatoes
Learn how to can your tomato harvest using the water bath canning method, lacto-fermentation, and dehydration.


November 9 – Fermented Thanksgiving Feast
Add probiotics to your Thanksgiving dinner. In this class, we’ll focus our attention on condiments and sides: preserved cranberries, lemons, chutneys, homemade mustard, horseradish, along with a couple homemade cheeses and yogurt. We will also discuss homemade vinegars and make a couple salads using homemade dressings and fermented vegetable.


December 14 – Body care gifts for the holidays
Bath salts, scrubs, toners, hydrating face cream, and soap
