Annual Gala: High Hopes 2022!

About This Event

The Los Angeles Arboretum Foundation is pleased to announce the return of our annual fundraising gala with a trio of most deserving honorees: Foundation President Bill Lincoln, Arboretum Chief Executive Officer Richard Schulhof, and Past President Dan Foliart. They are pictured below from left to right.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 2, and join us in celebrating these three special Arboretum leaders, and true friends, of the garden. The al fresco event, themed High Hopes, is set in the lovely Arboretum gardens and will evoke a famously elegant era of style – with a focus on music that spans the Great American Songbook and includes the Oscar-winning song “High Hopes” performed by Frank Sinatra. A cocktail reception at 5:00 p.m. in the beautiful Celebration Garden kicks off festivities. Guests will then move to a captivating dinner set under the stars and bistro lights. Live music, dancing, and awards follow, ensuring a fun-filled night for all!

While also honoring these special leaders who have made such a difference at the Arboretum, the gala also raises important operating support. This funding allows us to care for our botanical collections and historic structures, and makes possible exceptional educational programming for children and adults.

For all of us with High Hopes for the Arboretum and its future, we very much hope you will join us for a night to remember as we celebrate our three outstanding honorees. Individual tickets are $300 each, and sponsor opportunities are available, starting at $1,500. More details coming soon!

To be added to our invitation list, please email LeAnn Kubiak in the Development Office at or phone (626) 821-3237.

About our Honorees

Our three honorees had high hopes for the Arboretum when they began, and they have made them a reality for the benefit of all who now visit the gardens.

Bill Lincoln, who joined the Arboretum Foundation Board in 2014, has furthered the Arboretum mission in immeasurable ways. A financial professional by vocation, he is admittedly all about the numbers. His keen sense of business and finance helped the Foundation grow its earned income opportunities enormously, as Bill understood their importance for a thriving Arboretum. As he wraps up his fourth and final year as President on June 30th, Bill continues his work to grow the strategic partnership between the Arboretum Foundation and Los Angeles County. The increased effectiveness of this productive collaboration was a hallmark of his presidency and has greatly benefited the gardens, historic structures, and all those the Arboretum serves.

An Arboretum Foundation Board member since 2012, Dan Foliart served as President of the Foundation Board from 2015 – 2018. During Dan’s tenure, his passion and commitment led efforts to improve care for historic buildings and collections, including the securing of $1.7 million to restore the Reid-Baldwin Adobe, a long-needed project that is now approaching completion. It was also through Dan’s leadership, and with the combined advocacy of the Baldwin Lake Committee and Arboretum community, that L. A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger committed County funds to restore Baldwin Lake, with engineering studies currently underway. A composer by profession, and Writer Vice Chairman of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, Dan is forever remembered for his inspiring song, “The Arboretum Waits for You.”

Since his youth, Richard Schulhof had wanted to work with plants, a passion that led to advanced degrees in forestry and botanic garden administration, and to a 50-year career in horticulture. A past Director of Descanso Gardens and former Deputy Director of Harvard University’s Arnold Arboretum, Richard’s career culminated when he joined the Arboretum in 2009. In his 13 years at the helm, Richard’s aim has been to provide the secure fiscal base needed for stability and growth, and to create opportunities for new audiences to discover and enjoy the Arboretum. A myriad of capital improvements including the upcoming Visitor Plaza entrance project and new gardens, along with exciting festivals, were all part of his vision to transform the Arboretum into a world-class public gar
