Loretta Allison, an edible and holistic gardening consultant and designer, will present garden workshops both Friday & Saturday, March 27 & 28. GROWING TOMATOES 101, Friday, March 27; 10am

It’s spring and that means it’s time to plant tomatoes! This 101 style workshop will cover the basics and then some. Topics covered include how to choose the tomato varietals that are best suited to your microclimate, optimizing growing and crop production while minimizing common pests and diseases, and top tomato planting strategies for both native soil and in raised bed container gardens. Common tomato questions will also be answered such as ” Why didn’t my tomatoes produce last year?” “What do indeterminate and open-pollinated mean?” and “Why did my tomato suddenly die?” Tomatoes are one of the earthly delights of the warm season and this workshop gets your summer edibles garden growing in the right direction. Bring pen and paper for ample note taking!

CULTIVATING SOIL WORKSHOP, Friday, March 27 1pm

In this Organic Gardening 101 workshop, you will learn the importance of soil prep and how to cultivate living, vibrant soil, which edible crops to plant during key gardening months, and how to protect and nourish your plants, plus some edible gardening strategies for SoCal.  This workshop will answer your gardening questions and get you inspired!

DROUGHT TOLERANT TIPS, Saturday, March 28, 10am

This workshop will cover the all important basics of natural gardening with an emphasis on cultivating drought resistance in your garden.  You will learn the importance of soil prep and how to get living, vibrant soil, which edible crops to plant during key gardening months, and how to protect and nourish your plants with useful best garden practices. We’ll be venturing down gardening rabbit holes with topics such as biodiversity and cover crops too. Please make sure to bring pen and paper to this informative workshop.

CONTAINER GARDENING, Saturday, March 28 1pm

In this workshop, the secrets to healthy and vibrant container plants will be revealed. We’ll also cover top edible plant picks for container gardens, patio and small space gardening, soil fertility, why container size matters and how to choose a proper pot, why your plants aren’t growing and what to do about it. This workshop will leave you with the knowledge to keep your container plants healthy, happy and looking beautiful!
