Arboretum Nature Club
COME EXPLORE WITH US!
Nature Club is an enrichment program that connects children to the natural world through joyful, hands-on experiences and meaningful peer interactions. Designed for children 5 to 10 years old, Nature Club integrates playful explorations of our gardens with nature-themed science, art, and cooking activities. While fostering healthy child development skills and inspiring relationships with nature, this program unlocks fun, new avenues for children to learn and explore at their own pace with the garden as their classroom.
Nature Club is offered as an after-school program on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, or as a weekend experience on Saturday morning. (The Saturday curriculum mirrors the Tuesday/Thursday curriculum, so interested families should choose one schedule or the other.)
Nature Club will also be offered as a special full-day program the week of Thanksgiving break (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday). Like summer camp, this is a drop-off program designed for independent child participation, with parents picking their children up at the end of the day.
The Tuesday/Thursday sessions will consist of two separate cohorts of 18 children, while the Saturday sessions will consist of one cohort of 18 children. Participants are required to wear masks throughout the program, engage in wellness checks upon entering the grounds, and refrain from sharing supplies while maintaining three feet distances whenever possible indoors.
Tuesday/Thursday sessions sessions lead by Brooke Applegate, Director of Education, Tony Martinelli, Youth Education Instructor.
Saturday sessions sessions lead by Rachel Masters, Arboretum Youth Education Instructor, and Tony Martinelli, Youth Education Instructor.

In the event any weeks are required to close due to public health concerns or mandates, refunds will be provided for the canceled dates.
“The Arboretum Nature Club is a wonderful experience! Currently, there are less opportunities for kids now to socialize, experience nature and breathe in fresh air while taking in the joy and laughter of new friends. Nature Club provides an enriching environment filled with stimulating activities, nature walks, and expressive movement and art projects. My child comes home each day exhausted and happy!”
“Arboretum Nature Club has given our 7-year-old daughter new friendships, appreciation for her natural environment, and lots of fresh air. She looks forward to her club days with an excitement and enthusiasm that makes us parents smile, especially during this past year. We have watched our daughter’s confidence and overall happiness blossom in her time at the Arboretum. She’s become a peacock and peahen expert, and an observing 7-year-old with a growing knowledge of and respect for her natural world. From the first days of summer Nature Camp onward through the Autumn and Winter clubs, [the staff] have consistently implemented and enforced the COVID-19 protocols while running a high-caliber, child-centered program, that most importantly is fun every day.”
“Our experience with the Arboretum Nature Club has been extraordinary. My daughter is so excited on the days she is able to attend and looks forward to seeing the other kids and staff. Equally important to the people at the Arboretum are the projects she creates. These projects have included various aspects of nature through engaging and educational activities after exploring the grounds. This has truly supported her social and emotional dexterity during this time.”
“This program at the Arboretum has been amazing for my child! She loves being out in nature and is learning so much about plants, science, insects, the list goes on. She comes home very happy and is excited to share about her day with me. We couldn’t ask for a better afternoon activity!”
